For the record, I have viewed a few of the ‘Fallen Angel: The Outlaw Larry Norman’ outtakes on YouTube. It is all very sad to me. It’s sad if what is said about Larry Norman by those closest to him is true. It’s sad if he was compelled by emotional and mental health problems to make certain, perhaps even devastating mistakes. To me it is also sad that this documentary comes out several years after Norman’s death when the only thing gained is gratification that the truth be told.
It is one thing for the wounded to get the help they need to heal, but if that help means that the world must know of the man’s “demons”… well then, I just don’t see how God is glorified in that. At that point, the truth might be the whole truth but it doesn’t make it any less gossip about a dead man. Read 2nd Samuel about the life of David, this man after God’s own heart and then ask yourself, “Was King David a fraud?” King David may have been a narcissist that wounded and destroyed the lives a whole bunch of men, women, his and their marriages, and teenage girls. Today, the man after God’s own heart is dancing and singing songs in the presence of the One who saved him from his destructive self.
Might the same be said of one Larry Norman?
